Thiagarajar College of Arts - Memories Back !

Way, way, way back :) in 1999, I stepped into college - Thiagarajar College of Arts, Madurai, where I did my Bachelors in Computer Science. As my elder brother KB too had done his graduation there I had no worries of ragging. I was introduced to my seniors through KB, from there I had good comfort feel that I can approach them for any problem.

Here goes all my memories which I still remember and cherish!

• The tricks and moves we did to postpone a Math test


• 2000 New Year celebration with small cake cutting ceremony


• The day we were caught up by HOD for playing a game in class room.


• The day when I was appreciated by a professor for my logical thinking in programming


• The day when I was very late to enter the class (bcoz of rain, nambungaa…) and HOD was saying “ivlo nearm kalichu edhukku college ku varanum”


• The day we went for a one day tour to Kodaikannal


• Welcome Party celebration when we had been to watch a film and walked off in the mid due to problems with guys in theatre


• The three days tour to Bangalore & Mysore - sariyana Galatta tour adhu. People next to our room complained to our professor for all the noise we made in nights :)..


• Pongal celebration - college-ae kala kattum appo… guys will be in their Dhotties and gals in Sarees.. so colourful..

Extra bites:

->All the plans made to go to theatre - the instant calls made to parents to inform them on our film plans..

->same-same-sweet games.. - getting sweets from gals/guys if he/she wears same color dress as of mine, I treasure those chocolate wrappers still :)

->Getting a single set of parotta in canteen - keeping it in middle of the table for all the gals to put their hands..

->Theppakkulam Bus stop marathadi arattai..

All I can say is we enjoyed the college life to the fullest!

Google Maps Street View - of any use??

people in USA please respond. how useful is Google street view feature?? really amazed to see the close view of streets there...

Google Analytics for your Blogs - Check your Traffic

Do you know how many visitors come to your blog everyday? How did they like your blog? the source/medium from which you receive your visitors? Wondering to get this info it will take so much of your time. No, it is not true. Just 10 mins of time will do.

Google Analytics (GA) is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website.

Steps to get your Google Analytics

1. Create your gmail Id. If you already have no worries! You can use the same.


2. Login into www.google.com/analytics with this username/pwd


3. Register your blog there - you will be provided with a code which you have to incorporate into your blog.


4. Now login your blogger. Get into HTML view of your template. Put the code as suggested by Google - Update the template. Make sure its updated - you can do this by checking your blog’s index page source code where you should find the code which you had put in your template.


5. Its almost done.


6. It takes a while for Google to tract and update the status of your blog.

I can see more psychological benefits with this Google Analytics. Say, when you learn that your blog is linked by someone else showing their interest in your blog and that way you get more hits - it would for sure give you an immense happiness :). And of course you can be loyal to your blog-friend by linking back ;-)

Off Topic - Google

As you know Google has been acquiring all huge companies like ORKUT, Youtube, Urchin, Blogger and many. When you watch deeply you will learn that you can use all these services with a single username/pwd - Gmail. All Google needs is more Gmail users and in turn more business.

Have you ever wondered how did Google become such a big company in short span, although being a service providing company? Its all because of Google Adwords - a profit oriented service provided by Google.

Google Adwords is a big topic to talk now! I just want to put one thing here. The sponsored results which appear on right side of your Google search query results and in your Gmail box are mere advertisements. Those advertisers pay Google for each click you make. However, Google follows certain standards & ethics to publish those ads and it makes sure that those ads are topic relevant.

Hold on! A lot on Google - enough!!! :D

Coorg Trip from Bangalore

Long back we had been to Coorg, disappointingly at a wrong time. The season was not so good; we felt the sun even inside the resort :) however besides all these we enjoyed. It was a family tour - me & my hubby, my brother & my bhabhi, my mum & my Pappa. You will enjoy to go for such trip when you don’t even prefer to roam around instead juz sit & talk under some roof :) that’s what we did - played cards, talked, made fun all time…

We visited Kushalanagar - a tourist spot near madikkeri, Kodakku district. It is said that this place is the second largest settlements of Tibetians outside Tibet. It was good to see Tibetians there having their own habitat - every small business is run by Tibetians.

The place we most enjoyed was the Raja’s Seat, a perfect time to be there is after 5 in the evening - fantastic view of Sunset. You can even have a small trekking experience.

I missed to say an important info in my last post. Many (is to so?) would have wondered why suddenly on Tarangambadi?. hmm.. we visited that place some days back and I got curiosity to write on this. That was a day before full-moon day, which helped us to stay for long with natural light. It was great to see the view of Moon in the sea water. :) am yet to get the softcopy of those photos. Will upload once I get.

Tranquebar, Tharangambadi - Unknown History

Blogging after a very long time… though I wanted to write very frequently..:)

I wanted to write about Tranquebar (Tharangambadi in Tamil) in Nagapattinam District. I didn’t know that there is so much history behind this place. Each and every place in India has its own history. When you read on such histories you will feel “oops we didn’t know this for many years”.

I didn’t know that Tharangambadi is a Danish colony long before (1620 - 1845) which was a busy port in those years. Two Lutherans - Bartholomäus Ziegenbalg and Heinrich Pluetschau were playing major role to establish Danish colony in Tranquebar and it was later taken by British. It is said only Danish were the first for protestant missionaries in India.

Do you know who were the first to enter India and establish their colonies, its Portuguese (Vasco da Gama landed in Calicut on May 20, 1498) from then foreign colonies started growing in India.

Train Journey & We

Its always an exciting experience for us (me & my hubby) with train journey. Our last journey to my native was quite interesting… here it goes

The train departures from Bangalore Cantontment station at 9.40, but it usually comes late atleast 10 to 20 mins..

It is 8.45 at home..

V: “seekiram kilambu.. auto vera kidakanum … “
Me: “ivlo seekiram kilambi enna seiya porom.. station la poi pora varra train ellam vedikkai paarkanum”
V : “adhellam parava illa kilambu”

We catched auto ard 8.50 & reached Rl. Station by 9 sharp.

He was checking with Coach num with our E-ticket.. got confirmed its Coach 10, and kept back the ticket in his pant pocket (note: he actually slipped it down unknowingly instead of putting in pockets). We reached near Coach 10 and found a place to sit.

He was again checking the tickets for seat num… oops its not in pockets (the best thing I like with him is no tension.. COOL baby).. he went back to search in the same place where he checked for Coach num.. Alas it was not there.. came back and said since it was E tickets he will go to some Browsing Centre to get a printout of the same…

9.10 started from Rl.station catching an auto. Me sitting alone…
9.15 call to V.. V saying “yes yes reached a Browsing centre… will take printouts & come don’t worry..”
9.25 call from V saying “took printouts yet to move… will start in mins in the same auto”
9.30 a train is marching towards station… heartbeat is getting high.. Thank God its Thirupathi express…

9.35 Call from V saying “am on the way..”

9.40 V came smiling towards me…

Our train was actually late that day and hence we ended with good finish story..

Not sure how to write experiences or incidents very interestingly… but when you experience such thrilling moments, you feel like sharing with everyone… :) am done with my job.. :D

Google - the best company to work for - Fortune’s Report

Google is considered the best company to work for in USA, says Fortune. It was not in any top positions in previous years, but its number 1 now.

Got a chance to watch a video on work culture in Google, really AMAZING. People playing around, Gym, volley ball court, and the topnotch is you can bring your pets if your co-workers don’t mind. Interesting right??? You will love to work in such companies if you too watch the video. The founders Larry & Sergey in an interview were saying “we kept the company in the way we wanted to”

The work culture, environment is more important nowadays and you can see many MNC companies (in particular IT companies) are ready to do whatever employees want. Employers want the employees to work happily, which they believe will generate more revenue.

Joyous Memories

As I said in my first post blogging is not that easy as I thought. When you want to write something on what you think it doesn’t come out in the same way as you think. Many a times I wonder how fast this mind (brain or whatever you call) works (thinks, calculates, remembers, stores,.. ). :D

I feel the writing skill is so important, I see people who speak well don’t write better, or atleast not able to convey what they actually wanted to… now keep all this aside… we will get back to some joyous things..

Somedays back we had been for a trip to Kerala.. think we went the perfect time to enjoy the climate. Munnar - when I spell this word, all the memories comes back.. its really such a good place to take rest from your machine life… as it is said “god’s own country” you really feel the essence of it. : )

You would be hearing such dialogues in your day-to-day life, especially if are in IT industry. Did you ever imagined such a world some 12 years back?. I would say “not at all”, the word “Boom” best fits here : )

Nowadays I rely on Internet on many things. Some days back while I was looking at sky I got doubt on what is difference between mist & fog and thought “tomorrow should Google with this”. I am not sure I would have gone to some library to find on this, if WWW doesn’t exist. See how WWW has changed us. And now we are in a world where you can get everything on your desk.

Cotton Candy (Panju Mittai in Tamil) and me

Are you crazy about cotton candy?, then you can join hands with me, (we can have a fan club) am so crazy that I never move to next shop whenever I see a cotton candy shop. My favorite place to have Panju mittai is cubbon park. My legs stops walking once I see the shop in the entrance (its good they have it in the entrance) and I get one Panju mittai which I eat all the way till we find some good place to sit. I like the puffy shape, the color.. and the taste yummy.. yummy… J

Sometimes I wonder why people always bet for dairy milk chocolate. If someone asks me to bet I would prefer cotton candy (of course, if there is more chance to win). In college days we bet for dairy milk, whenever I win I get the chocolate, taste a little and share the remaining with friends. This is not the case with Panju mittai.. very rarely I ask “do you want to taste?..” when there is only one candy in hand :D

Pi (Pie) in Trignometry

Did you ever know why do we use 3.14 for the value of pie π in calculating area, circumference of circle ? Trust me till yesterday I didn’t know it. Today I was just surfing on topic “Indian Mathematician” (he.. he.. little more interested with Maths, though not like Jyothika in Kakka Kakka .. M.sc., Maths IIT)

Thanks a lot to Wikipedia from where am learning more and more (obviously improving my knowledge level). An interesting fact about Wikipedia is about its related topics. For instance when you read something related to India you can find to links “Taj Mahal”, “Hinduism” “Sanskrit” and many such things related to India, which helps in easy reading and better understanding.

Back to pie π value I never thought Trignometry has these much stuffs behind the Pie value. With help of wikipedia and www.themathpage.com I learned a lot on this.. .. (pie value evaluation) Isoceles triangle, ½ Sin ǿ, chord, adjacent side… everything with trigonometry. I was thinking if we were taught in this way in schools no one would say “oops Trigonometry.. that’s the one I hate yaar..” Themathpage is great website for all, very clearly explained on theorems, calculations, equations.. so now I can say why do we use π value in calculating circumference and area of square with which many other formulas are derived.

hmm.. I too can blog on subject related topics.. :)

Ego in Marriage life

I have been wondering why people say they have a bitter experience after getting married, especially after “Love Marriage”. Is it because of the “Expectations not met” or is it the result of “untrue love”?

Guys always enjoy the song “September Madham..” from Alaipayuthey. Though it says about problems in “Love Marriage” maily about Ego clashes, Mani Ratnam has clearly explained the power of true love in that film. I especially like the dialogue said by Madhavan’s house owner “Vittu kudukanum paa. Vittu kudukanum..” which will help for peaceful & happy life (not only for “Love marriage”)

So what I mean to say is “No Ego.. No worries”

All these topics came up when I thought of blogging. But I wanted to write about MASK. Am I saying about the film MASK.. may be!!!…

The film Mugam by Nasar will clearly elaborate on the topic am about to write. It is such a good film that everyone should watch to know and realise where we are heading to. Its not so easy for people to be themselves at all places. It is quite natural and we start wearing MASK (cover ourselves and show untruth face). As the days goes we end with several number of masks one at office, one at home, and one with neighbors and finally we lose our own identity. And the question who am I actually arises. Are we here just to wear all these Mask, hide ourselves?? At some instance you find people liking YOU WITH YOUR MASK and not the ACTUAL YOU..

So how many MASKs do you have at your home??
